20 Days into Paleo Challenge

This sort of feels like a picture overload dump but I've been busy the last 20 days.  I joined Civilized Caveman's 30 Days to a Better You Challenge.  It's just the motivation I needed to start this new journey. I've really struggled staying on Paleo.  Lots of outside factors impacted that.  But my bodies constant yearn to feel strong and healthy again never went away.  I'm grateful to my family and husband and great Integrative Medicine doctor who have been gently pushing me back to the right path.  I've spend that last 20 days trying intermittent fasting on for size and it's been really great.

I think it feels much different than how I was used to coach others in regards to eating.  Where before I spent a lot of time planning 3 meals and 3 snacks I now eat 2 or 3 times a day and only sometimes snack.  I'm a morning workout girl so breakfast always came early to me.  It's been an adjustment waiting until 10 a.m or after to begin eating food.  Mr. and I both swear by our bullet proof coffee. We feel like it really does fill us up and curb some of the hunger pains.

Before
After
Much of the beginning of this challenge felt the same.  The first thing I did the weekend prior was to clean out my pantry and refrigerator.  I then used the awesome emeals app to download recipes for the week and prepare my grocery list all on my phone!

Menu plan for the week courtesy of +eMeals — Real Food for Real Life

This is posted on my refrigerator and when I get home from the store before groceries I take a look at our calendar and plan which meals work best for us against our schedule.  Then I'll put away groceries based on when we'll use the ingredients.  I almost always freeze meat until the night before I need to use it.  This is one of my habits that allows us to be successful at meal time.  Scheduling in advance leaves little room for error.

Below are some of the meals that I've had the past 3 weeks.  No links to recipes this time but I'm sure I'll get back to doing just that soon.  I just wanted to share that because of emeals paleo offerings we're able to eat variety of healthy vegetables and protein.

When the stars align just right I make breakfast on Saturday morning.
The boys commented that the Red Pepper Sauce made this meal taste like pizza.
We had these turkey burgers before a home football game this past week..
Cauli-mash made this like comfort food.
I love a good homemade chicken salad.
Eggs and bacon but I threw some leftover brussel sprouts on them to eat at work.

Yummy stir fry!
Saturday night steak night.  Kerrigold has a garlic and herb butter that we melted on top. Delicious!

Of course Mr. is on this similar journey with me as well.  He check in this morning with me to see how I was feeling.  I don't feel a ton different yet but noted that I can tell inflammation has gone way down.  I also have been sleeping better.  I just know that this lifestyle fits me the best.  I can say that the intermittent fasting has caused me to think less about food than I once did.  Overall, feeling like I have it back in control and with a plan helps me focus on me.   #Foodisadrug

10 Things Couples Starting their Paleo Journey Should Know!

Mr. and I started our Paleo Journey pretty much together.  I can't say that it was a smooth beginning.  We definitely have learned a lot through the process and continue to do so.  Here's a quick list of 10 things you should know when starting the Paleo Journey as a Couple!   1. Support from your partner! Support from your partner is key to your journey.  It's been one of the best things we've done as far as our relationship is concerned.  We've literally lost a person (130 lbs) in 6 months.  It's not all been pretty but we are a stronger TEAM because we've been on the journey together! 2.  There's No 'I' in Team! Teamwork makes the dream work!  I couldn't have done this without Mr. rolling up his sleeves and pitching in.  We both like to be in the kitchen but neither of us is fond of the clean up afterwards.  We do teamwork with cooking when we are both home.  This way it doesn't fall on one persons sh...

Stepping Out In Support of Paleo

My goal is for this Blog to help someone make the switch to Paleo and ultimately live a happier and healthier life.  I am stepping out in support of the Paleo lifestyle because it has changed my life and my husbands life for the better.   Please know that I am not a writer.  My "style" if you will, of writing is more conversational than gramatical and I am o.k. with that.  I hope you can be too because I think I have a lot of great experience from learning how to actually live the Paleo lifestyle to share! For now, however, I'd like to share with you my dinner from last night.  I've just returned from an extended trip and my Mr. has been taking care of grocery shopping and meal planning and does it much differently than me but I fused our efforts and made Maple Mustard Chicken Thighs with Cabbage Apple, Bacon, and Walnut Side Dish.  This recipe was taken in part from www.emeals.com  and changed to what we had on hand.   EMeals  is my go...

THE SYMBOL OF A RING

When I started my journey I had something I wanted to accomplish that I probably didn't tell anyone.  I have shared it with a few people after the fact.  In my weight gain and all the things I couldn't do, wear, or accomplish one thing bothered me more than anything.  I couldn't get my wedding ring on my finger. I've always had large hands.  My fingers are puffy and it had been years since I had gotten to wear my wedding ring.  Many mornings it would leave a pit in my stomach and I can't tell you how many times I would try hoping that some of the water weight had made my fingers small enough to slip it on. Our anniversary is in September and a year and half ago I had contemplated having it resized so I could wear it again.  I didn't have a real goal or the gumption to loose weight.  In the end, I was too embarrassed to walk into the jewelry store and admit defeat.  When we began our journey this past August the first thing I started to do ...
